Built in 1551 by the Rozereau family, it was acquired in 1999 by its present owners, Hélène and Arnaud Derats, who restored the chateau and acquired the family winery, which includes 22 hectares of vineyards located in Côtes de Beaune and Côtes de Nuit regions. Château de Melin currently operates 25 hectares of vineyards and produces 22 appellations: 20 in the Côtes-de-Beaune and 2 in the Côtes-de-Nuits areas. The vineyards have been organically farmed since 2009. No pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals.
Alternatively, organic farming entails soil cultivation thru ploughing, grass cutting, and exclusive use of natural sulphur and copper as a treatment against diseases on the vines. Nose: Intense aromatic expression evoking blackcurrant berries and other small red or black fruits, animal notes of musk and fur, and often liquorice when the wine has matured
Palate: Powerful wine, associating elegant tannins with an always abundant softness and a good level of acidity.
Food Pairing: Gevrey-Chambertin matches perfectly with game, because of its game notes, especially for mature wines. Rib of beef, lamb, game birds, it goes well with all these musky meats and solid fibers.
